BT Young Scientist: Day 2 coverage January 15, 2010

Wow, yesterday was busy!

We had hundreds of students visiting our IBM stand, eager to enter our draw for a Wii, to win a laptop with our ‘My idea for a Smarter Planet’ competition… and to get a free yo-yo! Fortunately we had a small army of volunteers to help us manage the stand, making sure that every visitor (be they a student, a teacher or a parent) left with one key message in mind: IBM is helping make the world work better.

Thanks again to all volunteers, who will be busy at the stand until the exhibition closes its doors this coming Saturday. Keep ‘guarding’ those yo-yo’s 🙂

The stand has been swamped with kids interested in getting a yo-you but taking the time to ask questions. A few kids asked what IBM stood for (letter that is). I told them what the acronym meant and also mentioned the company is a 100 years old next year.

Good on ya, Kristina 🙂

My highlight was chatting to two girls who, after hearing about IBM’s Smarter Planet, started to debate the possibility of implementing a ‘smarter school registration’ system, using tagged wristbands connected to a database, to automate the process and save paper. What more can I say 🙂
